چکیده

Specifying the correctness of complex concurrent and realtime systems is a crucial problem. Many property languages have been proposed to do so; however, these techniques often involve formalisms not easily handled by engineers, and furthermore require dedicated tools. We propose here a set of patterns that encode common specification or verification components when dealing with concurrent real-time systems. We provide a formal semantics for these patterns, as time Petri nets, and show that they can encode previous approaches.

Modelling Timed Concurrent Systems Using Activity Diagram Patterns

UML is the de facto standard for modelling concurrent systems in the industry. Activity diagrams allow designers to model workflows or business processes. Unfortunately, their informal semantics prevents the use of automated verification techniques. In this paper, we first propose activity diagram patterns for modelling timed concurrent systems; we then devise a modular mechanism to compose tim...

A Stepwise Approach to Linking Theories

Formal modelling of complex systems requires catering for a variety of aspects. The Unifying Theories of Programming (UTP) distinguishes itself as a semantic framework that promotes unification of results across different modelling paradigms via linking functions. The naive composition of theories, however, may yield unexpected or undesirable semantic models. Here, we propose a stepwise approac...

Performance modelling and the representation of large scale distributed system functions

This thesis presents a resource based approach to model generation for performance characterization and correctness checking of large scale telecommunications networks. A notion called the timed automaton is proposed and then developed to encapsulate behaviours of networking equipment, system control policies and non-deterministic user behaviours. The states of pooled network resources and the ...

Modelling and Numerical Simulation of Cutting Stress in End Milling of Titanium Alloy using Carbide Coated Tool

Based on the cutting force theory, the cutting stress in end milling operation was predicted satisfactorily through simulation of using finite element method. The mechanistic force models were introduced in high accuracy force predictions for most applications. The material properties in the simulations were defined based on the cutting force theory, as a function of strain and strain rate wher...

Modelling and Schedulability Analysis of Real-time Sequence Patterns using Time Petri Nets and Uppaal

This paper proposes an original approach to the schedulability analysis of real-time systems specified by Time Petri Nets (TPNs). The focus is on sequence patterns of transition firings (execution tasks). A TPN model is first translated in the Timed Automata terms of the popular Uppaal tool. Then schedulability properties of tasks are verified through reachability analysis. The approach is effi...
